Kilkenny Car Boot Sale is a very large event which is held every Sunday at Castleinch Venue. You’ll find traders of all kinds, selling everything you can imagine! Some traders come from as far afield as West Cork and even Co. Mayo! That’s quite a commitment, but it shows how popular and important the Car Boot Sale has become. Some traders depend on the Car Boot Sale for their income, others do it because they love to have the craic and meet people.
[/av_textblock][av_textblock size=” font_color=” color=” custom_class=” av_uid=’av-qb5jv’]
It’s become a veritable social outing in its own right, with traders and customers alike becoming part of this amazing community. It’s a really fun day-out for all the family. Whether you’re looking to buy something or not, you’re sure to meet some great characters and probably even some new friends! It’s a great social gathering with a real community spirit and feel. The best thing of all is that you’ll probably find something that you’ve been looking for and couldn’t find. The chances are that someone will be selling just what you need. The old saying “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” is surely most appropriate at Kilkenny Car Boot Sale!

So what are you waiting for? Come on down any Sunday between 8am and 4pm to join in the craic and wander the stalls at your own pace – we look forward to welcoming you!

The Kilkenny Car Boot sale is Ireland’s largest and longest running car boot sale. It all began back in 1988 when Jack Power was in London on business and on his return, he was passing through North Wales and saw a sign for a Car Boot Sale. Wondering what this could be, he saw the market and took a wander around, then realised there was nothing like this in Kilkenny. On his return home, he decided to give it a go…..

The very first day of the Kilkenny Car Boot Sale, there were only five stalls. Three belonged to Jack and the other two belonged to some friends. People came and had a laugh and some craic and after a few weeks a bank manager’s wife and a doctor’s wide came and did a stall too. This encouraged others and pretty soon the Car Boot Sale was starting to grow.
Jack’s wife then began to make tea and sandwiches for people that came to the Car Boot Sale and over the years this has grown and is now the fully equipped restaurant that you’ll find on the premises every Sunday. After a couple more years, there were so many cars turning up that a dedicated car park even had to be organised to keep all the cars from parking on the roadside!
